  1. Mighty Untidy - Children's Camp

    If you aren’t afraid of getting dirty, this is for you! Come have fun getting messy in some gross stuff while playing games and laughing. Make sure to wear clothes you don’t mind getting untidy.

  2. Beginner Knitting & Crocheting Starts

    July 7, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ South Side Neighborhood Center

    Learn elementary knitting and crochet stitches. Start a simple project in class. Supplies will be provided. Instructor is Sally Kulmaczewski. She has 67 years of knitting experience and has published knitting patterns. Assistant instructor is Joan Antony.

  3. The Driftless River Band - Harmony in the Neighborhood

    July 9, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ South Side Neighborhood Center

    The Driftless River Band preforms 50’s and 60’s country, to 60’s and 70’s rock and folk, to modern alternative country favorites. Dan Leis on bass and vocals; Greg Meeuwsen on mandolin, banjo, guitar and vocals; and Jason Gilman on guitar and vocals.

  4. Great River Shakespeare Festival: Much Ado About Nothing

    July 10, 10:30 AM - 4:00 PM

    Start your trip by eating lunch at Signature’s Restaurant, which is included in the price of trip. We will then go to a pre-show conversation which introduces the background of the play. Finally, we will attend the play “Much Ado About Nothing.” We will then depart for La Crosse around 4:00pm.

    Ahoy Matey… Ever dream of being a Pirate? Now is your chance! Sail the ocean blue of Memorial Pool to bring out your inner Pirate. Find hidden treasure, walk the plank and learn to talk like a Pirate!

  6. Prairie Smoke - Harmony on the River

    July 10, 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Black River Beach Neighborhood Center

    The music of Prairie Smoke combines the influences of American folk and the Celtic traditions of Scottish and Irish Aires, jigs and reels. Erin Hussey, Betsy Knowles, Rita Koch-Thometz, Jon Stuttgen, and Tom Walter perform on hammered and mountain dulcimer, fiddle, banjo, flute, bass, guitar and mandolin. A meal of Chicken Que by Premier Catering will be served.

  7. Toy Story - Disney Mini Chefs

  8. Essential Oils and Herbal Oils

    July 14, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM @ Black River Beach Neighborhood Center

    Learn how to make and blend your own herbal oils using this season’s fresh herbs and spices. Also learn how to combine and use essential oils safely. We will have a demonstration of how essential oils are made. As always, ideas, samples and recipes are available to take home, including herbal sunscreens and tanning oils. Instructor is Laurie Stiers-Foltz, MSN, RN, FNP, BS Holistic Nutrition, Certified Clinical Herbalist.

  9. Mississippi River Cruise

    July 14, 10:45 AM - 1:00 PM @ Meet at North end of Riverside Park on State Street

    Meet at the dock for the La Crosse Queen at the north end of Riverside Park by the large Indian statue. Enjoy a wonderful cruise aboard the La Crosse Queen on the beautiful Mississippi River. Included is a tasty Chicken Que lunch will be served on board as well with no extra charge. Please arrive at the dock by 10:45 am.

  10. Cooking Eggplant and Zucchini 4 Ways

    Did you grow a surplus of eggplant and zucchini this summer? These 4 new, delicious recipes will have you wanting more! Instructor is Deb Hendrickson, former chef at Cuddy’s Center at the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

  11. Gazpacho!

    July 15, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM @ Myrick Park Center

    What a refreshing way to serve a soup on a hot, sunny day. Defined as a cold soup, gazpacho can be used in many different ways. In this class, chef Shawn McManus from Savory Creations will be creating a watermelon gazpacho with a Mexican influence. He will demonstrate how to break down a watermelon, create a flavorful soup and also pair the soup with a seared watermelon salad consisting of balsamic vinegar glaze, organic salad mix, feta cheese and toasted nuts.

    Therese Roellich and Greg Bergh blend their voices to create beautiful harmonies of old standards by Frank Sinatra, Patsy Cline, Dean Martin, Judy Garland and others.

  14. Crooked Willow Band - Harmony on the River

    July 17, 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Black River Beach Neighborhood Center

    Made up of friends and family from the Driftless Area, Crooked Willow plays a mixture of different Americana styles. Tim Waller plays rhythm guitar and sings; Elisi Smith-Waller croons most of the vocals and picks the tenor banjo; Erik Hanson plucks the bass; Kara White plays the fiddle. They are often accompanied by special guests! They cover great artists like Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings, Old Crow Medicine Show, with a few original tunes sprinkled in. They love to focus on fun harmonies and toe-tapping rhythms. A meal of pulled pork, baked beans, macaroni salad, dessert and lemonade will be served.

  16. Drawing II Starts

    July 20, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ South Side Neighborhood Center

    Join instructor William Eddy in a discussion of the elements of drawing, such as lines, shape, space, color and texture. The principles of art will also be discussed, including balance, rhythm and harmony. You will experience several exercises that will prove helpful in developing an intuitive sense of organization. Drawing formats, simple and complex still life, positive and negative shapes and adding lights and darks will be covered. Materials needed: large Newsprint pads and drawing tools.

    The Apple Annies are goodwill ambassadors of song for the City of La Crescent and the La Crescent Apple Festival. The Apple Annies are a fun-loving, energetic group of ladies that will entertain you with many different genres, from show tunes to country to patriotic songs.

  19. Senior Fun Trolley Ride: Dark Tour

    July 24, 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM @ Weber Center

    Dare to join the La Crosse Public Library Archivists for a new kind of trolley tour called Dark La Crosse. Focusing on downtown La Crosse’s macabre past, your narrator will guide you down a dark path through the red light district, Prohibition, small town politics and vigilante justice in a young and restless river town bordered by the sleepless Mississippi River. After the tour, stay and enjoy an ice cream treat from Ranison’s on the terrace of the Weber Center. Ice cream treat is included in the cost of the tour. parking will be in the main parking lot at the Courtyard by Marriot (500 Front St.).

  20. West Salem Adult Jazz Band - Harmony on the River

    July 24, 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Black River Beach Neighborhood Center

    The West Salem Adult Jazz Band was formed early in 1993 by a few West Salem High School alumni band members. The band was to serve as a warm-up for the February ’94 appearance of the Maynard Ferguson Band. Selections range from big band classics to more recent pop stylings, from ballads to dance tunes, from Latin to Swing, and vocal features to production numbers. A meal of chicken salad sandwich on croissant, Italian pasta salad, fresh fruit cup, dessert and lemonade will be served.

    Looking for a silly way to get your kids outside and active? Sign up for Chicken N Noodle! We will be playing games with rubber chickens and pool noodles in fun, interactive ways. Lace up those tennis shoes and turn on your imagination for this program. Please bring water.

  23. Creative Watercolor Workshop - Children's Art

    July 27, 9:00 AM - July 29, 12:00 PM @ Black River Beach Neighborhood Center

    For boys & girls in grades 6-8. Come and learn new ways to express your creativity with watercolor. William Eddy will teach a colorful and expressive water technique. A picture can be completed in three sessions. All materials and a snack will be provided.

  24. String Ties - Harmony in the Neighborhood

    July 30, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ South Side Neighborhood Center

    String Ties call the hills of the upper Mississippi home. Their sound blends bluegrass, old-time country, swing, gospel and folk into an engaging version of acoustic music evoking nostalgia, love lost and found, moonshine hills and sturdy shoes on a barn dance floor. String Ties features Wayne Beezley on mandolin, Dan Sebranek on guitar, Larry Dalton on stand-up bass and Tommy Pfaff on the 5 string banjo.

  25. Les Fields and Pearl Street Banjo Band - Harmony on the River

    July 31, 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Black River Beach Neighborhood Center

    Come listen to some hot, Dixieland Jazz from the roaring 20’s. Hear some of your favorite tunes such as “When the Saints go Marching in,” “Bourbon Street Parade,” “Up the Lazy River,” “Waiting for the Robert E. Lee,” and “Dark Town Strutters Ball” to name a few. Band members are Les Fields- trumpet, washboard, pocket trumpet; Paul Erickson- banjo; Fred Dodd- banjo; and Neal Duresky– string bass. A meal of pork roast, mashed potatoes, corn, lemonade and dessert will be served.
