2/17/2018 - Prescribed Burn on Lookout and Zoerb Prairies

Zoerb and Lookout Prairie Prescribed Burn in Lower Hixon Forest

Saturday and Sunday February 17th-18th 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
Lower Hixon Forest
La Crosse WI

The City of La Crosse Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department, in cooperation with Pheasants Forever, will be conducting a prescribed burn on Zoerb and Lookout Prairies.  The actual date of the burn will depend on the weather, but will potentially be done Saturday, February 17th or Sunday, February 18th.  The purpose of these burns are to prevent encroaching woody and invasive material from the prairies, as well as stimulate the growth of existing seed banks in the soil. Because of the burn, parts of Bicentennial, Birch, Hickory, and Vista Trails will be closed to public use during the burn.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact Brandon Carey from the City of La Crosse Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department (careyb@cityoflacrosse.org, (608) 789-7309).
