You thought you knew Austin, MN? Guess again! Explore a few new places on the Austin Heritage Tour. An onboard guide will meet the group at the Hormel Institute and will be with the group for the day. The first stop will be the Hormel Institute. “Its aim is to improve the world’s health by completing biological research within the laboratory. Collaborating with Mayo Clinic and IBM has allowed them to uncover great achievements in biochemistry and research technology.” After the Institute take a drive thru tour of the Gerard/Hormel Estate. The next stop will be lunch at the Hormel Historic Home, followed by a tour of the home. Built in 1871, “The Hormel Historic Home strives to preserve the Home and History of the George A. and Lillian Hormel Family.” After lunch tour the SPAM Museum. Here, you can learn about the history of Hormel and SPAM. Wrap up the day at the Hormel Nature Center/Interpretive Center. “Originally an estate in 1927, the city of Austin acquired the property and added land to bring it up to 520 acres of prairie, forests, and wetlands.” Lunch is included in the cost of the trip.
Return to La Crosse at approximately 5:30pm.
