Today, March 17, 2022, at approximately 9:00am, The La Crosse Fire Department was requested to search the Mississippi River in the area of 500 Front Street South, to the 7th Street Boat Landing in what has been an ongoing proactive effort to locate Mr. Hamud Faal who had been missing since February 2022. Hamud was last seen on Sunday morning, February 20th, 2022 at 3:37am walking alone southbound on Front Street just North of Jay Street. At approximately 4pm today, Hamud was recovered by La Crosse Firefighters in about 25 feet of water near the Division St. Landing. La Crosse Police are continuing to investigate and will await the results of an autopsy for an official cause of death. The La Crosse Police Department and La Crosse Fire Department members send their condolences to the family and friends of Hamud.
