Any party requesting a traffic study must submit an application for services to the Engineering Department. Studies may include traffic volume counts, speed studies, truck percentage counts, pedestrian counts, turning movements counts, intersection sight distance evaluations, crash report diagrams, STOP or YIELD sign justification analyses, traffic signal warrant analyses, or other evaluations. Traffic studies and their summary reports are managed by the Traffic Engineer. Traffic analysis is conducted per City policies and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

The first step and fee of a traffic study application is a review of the traffic area.

If approved for further study, a study will be conducted, and a report will be filed. A separate fee is charged for the services of conducting the actual study. Based on the observations and results of the study, recommendations may be made for future changes, improvements, or upgrades to public facilities.

A traffic study may be required as part of a Finding and Order (Traffic and Parking signage) application or a Traffic Calming Application. If so required, the Review fee only will be waived for the traffic study, upon successful filing of the other, aforementioned application.
