The City of La Crosse Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department is proud to offer a variety of leisure, educational and recreational programs for individuals with special needs in our community.

Our Special Recreation program offers year-round clubs, monthly events and trips.  The Special Recreation programs are for all ages and all abilities.

Special Olympics Wisconsin - La Crosse Area is a non-profit agency that provides individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in sports competition, develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy while participating in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, Special Olympics athletes, and the community.  In order to be eligible for Special Olympics sports, athletes must be 8 years of age or older with an intellectual disability.  Medical forms and release forms are required of all athletes in order to compete.

Volunteers are always needed to help out with programs, practices and special events!
If you are interested in volunteering on a regular basis with trips, activities and sports practices, please call the Special Recreation Volunteer Coordinator at 608.789.7596 to schedule a mandatory volunteer orientation.
