The La Crosse Police Department, in partnership with ViaroFit, has created a 5-week pre-training guide that will help Officer candidates prepare for the Physical Readiness Test (PRT) exit standards.

For the pre-training guide, the following information can be helpful for those new to training terms and types of movement.

Term
Description / Video Example
5-10-5 Drill Sprint 5 meters one way, then 10 meters the opposite direction, then 5 meters the opposite direction. See linked video.
Build Up Sprints - 65%, 75%, 85%, 95%

For the suggested number of sets, build up to your full/maximum speed each time starting at 65%, then 75%, etc.

Jog/Speed Walk
Jog 30 seconds, Speed Walk 30 seconds; repeat for total mileage suggested.
Run/Jog
Run 30 seconds, Jog 30 seconds; repeat for total mileage suggested.
AMRAP
This means "As Many Reps As Possible".
Seated Box Jump Not continuous, pause and rest for each rep. See linked video.

Dumbbell Squat Jump Not continuous, pause and rest for each rep. See linked video.
Box Jump Not continuous, pause and rest for each rep. See linked video.

Physical Readiness Test - Exit Standards

Description of Requirements - information regarding each component of the PRT can be found in this document. In short, they are:

Physical Readiness Component
Minimum Exit Standards
Vertical Jump At least 14 inches
Agility Run 19.5 seconds, or less
Sit-ups (1 minute test) At least 30
300 meter Run 68 seconds, or less
Push-ups At least 23
1.5 mile Run 16 minutes and 57 seconds, or less

 

Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board PRT Instructional Video - this video details proper form and technique for each component. At the beginning it references the Academy entrance standards, and at the end it details the exit standards. The exit standards are required in order to graduate from the WI 720-hour Academy. These standards are also required by the La Crosse Police Department before becoming a sworn Officer.
