Indoor Cabaret

Indoor Cabaret is defined as a place to which the general public is admitted and where dancing or live entertainment is permitted or furnished to patrons by the management with or without special charge therefore, and where liquid refreshment or foods are sold; provided, that if dancing is permitted, not less than 50% of the floor area of the room or rooms in which the dancing is permitted or furnished shall be occupied by tables and chairs for the use of patrons. All the owners of property zoned conservancy, residential or multiple dwelling within 100 feet of the Indoor Cabaret premises shall receive notice of the original application, and a license shall only be granted following approval by a two-thirds vote of the Common Council.

Outdoor Cabaret

Outdoor Cabaret is defined as an outdoor area to which the general public is admitted and where dancing or live entertainment is permitted or furnished to patrons by the management with or without special charge therefore, and where liquid refreshment or foods are sold. All property owners within 200 feet of the proposed licensed premises for an Outdoor Cabaret License shall receive notice of the original application. A license shall only be granted following approval by a two-thirds vote of the Common Council.

Special Event Outdoor Cabaret

This permit is repealed effective January 1, 2020. See New Special Event Procedures pursuant to Ordinance 5113 adopted October 10, 2019.

License Period

Except for the Special Event Outdoor Cabaret License, each license shall terminate on June 30th of the year following its issuance.

License Fee

The non-refundable license fee is due at the time of application (cash, check payable to City Treasurer or credit with convenience fee).

  • $135.00 - Indoor Cabaret
  • $160.00 - Outdoor Cabaret

How to Apply

Applications shall be made in writing on the form prescribed by law and filed with the City Clerk's Office who may issue the same after appropriate review by the La Crosse County Health Department, Police Department and Fire Prevention and Building Safety Bureau, and approval by the Common Council. All applications shall be on file with the City Clerk not less than 15 days prior to the granting of this license.
