Any person 18 years of age or older, who has a valid driver license, operating a public passenger vehicle must obtain a Public Passenger Vehicle Operator's License. The license is valid only in the City of La Crosse.

License Period
A Public Passenger Vehicle Operator's License shall be valid through December 31 of the second year subsequent to the issuance thereof.
License Fee
$50.00 is due at the time of application (cash, check payable to City Treasurer or credit with convenience fee).
The license fee is non-refundable and a receipt of paid license fee is not a valid license.
How to Apply
Complete an Application for Public Passenger Vehicle Operator License.
For a badge photo, please submit either a clear photocopy of your driver license or a small head shot photo (no sunglasses or hats) with your application. You may also call the City Clerk to make an appointment for a photograph. The City Clerk's Office can be reached at 608-789-7510.
Applications may be submitted during public service hours, by mail or by depositing in the GREEN drop box on the north side of City Hall.
Additional Information
Following application, the Police Department will conduct a background check. Once approved, you will return to pick up your laminated badge. Please allow up to 15 days for the background check.
Note: Applications will be denied if applicant has been convicted of a felony or has multiple convictions which substantially relate to the licensing activity or is considered an habitual law offender (as per Wisconsin's Fair Employment Act).
